Meek & Lowly: A Devotional

Hello friends! Here’s a short thought the Lord shared with me today.

Meekness

Many times the world think it correlates to weakness or cowardice. But in actuality meekness is SELF CONTROL in trying circumstances. It is pushing aside self in 1) thought and 2)in action with humility. This is the opposite of weakness!! This is true strength. 💪🏽We can only have this meekness in Christ. I’ve had moments where I’ve been tried, where I thought “well I didn’t react or behave unseemly so I’m good” but my THOUGHTS- they were firing off.

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭29‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Now if we just focus on the actions but are raging in our thoughts, what rest is there in that? Christ is meek and lowly IN HEART— in the MIND. The spirit that resides in us will not only work a meekness outwardly, but inwardly first. The actions will correlate with the thoughts because the thoughts come first!

“Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks” Matthew 12:34

The devil will have you believe that just because the actions were okay that its meekness. God forbid I think anything I do of myself is good!!

”The difficulties we have to encounter may be very much lessened by that meekness which hides itself in Christ. If we possess the humility of our Master, we shall rise above the slights, the rebuffs, the annoyances, to which we are daily exposed, and they will cease to cast a gloom over the spirit. The highest evidence of nobility in a Christian is self-control. He who under abuse or cruelty fails to maintain a calm and trustful spirit robs God of His right to reveal in him His own perfection of character. Lowliness of heart is the strength that gives victory to the followers of Christ; it is the token of their connection with the courts above.”
